Sock packaging options, from poly bag to retail carton

Packing is decided after the costing, not before it. Six formats cover most wholesale orders, and each one changes the artwork, the carton and the picking.

Read this as a short sock packaging options guide: what each format asks of you, and which detail gets left off the purchase order.

What is in a packed pair

Four parts move together

A packed pair is four things: the sock, the carrier, the printed piece and the carton. Pick the carrier first, because the printed piece follows from it.

Pallets of white and gray sacks in a warehouse room, with stacked cardboard cartons at the left

Cartons are stacked by order. The markings on the outside are what a forwarder reads first.

A plain bag needs nothing. A printed sleeve needs artwork, and artwork needs an approval round before the run. That round is what moves a date.

Packing is usually settled from a picture rather than from a description. Send a photo or a link to the pack you have in mind — on the enquiry form or to sales@sockwholesalers.com — and the reply names the format the floor can run and what it needs from you.

Say who opens the carton. A distributor wants plain packs that stack flat. A retail buyer wants a hook hole, a barcode and a size strip on the front.

Where orders go wrong

The two details buyers forget

Pair count per pack and size split. A carton of 200 pairs split four ways is a different picking job from 200 pairs in one size. Once the pack is fixed, the carton is what freight is priced on, and Sock Shipping Volume per Carton turns one closed carton into that figure.

Write both onto the purchase order. The signed sample covers the sock; the packing list covers the bag, the card and the carton markings.

Carton markings travel further than the shop floor. A forwarder reads them, a customs broker reads them, and a warehouse picker reads them months later.

Formats, and what each one asks of you

Six formats, what each one needs from the buyer, where it usually ends up, and whether it moves the minimum.

Each format is costed as its own line. Ask the desk for the wholesale price on the one you pick, and note that the minimum of 1,000 pairs applies per style, not per format.

What changes between these rows is the packing labour and the printed piece, not the order quantity. That is why the 1,000 pairs per style holds across all six, and why a format question is rarely the reason a date moves.

Gift sets and promotions are packed from the printed-pouch row above; the rest of that order, which starts from the campaign date, is on Promotional and corporate gifting socks.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Can one order use two packing formats?

Yes. Each format is costed as its own line and the split goes on the purchase order. Packing labour is what changes, not the sock, so the sample you approved still stands for both packs.

Who supplies the barcode number?

You do. Send the number with the artwork and it is printed exactly as given. We do not assign codes, because the code belongs to your retail listing, and a wrong prefix is rejected at the till.

Is artwork approval needed before packing?

Yes. The approved file is filed against your order number, and the printed piece is checked against it before the carton is sealed. A reprint found after sealing is a whole new run.

What if my packing list changes late?

Write to the desk before the packing stage begins. Packing is built from the purchase order, so a change inside that window is absorbed. A change after the cartons are sealed is a re-pack.

The short version

Carrier, count, split

Those three answers are enough for a costing. Artwork can follow, and the carton markings arrive with the purchase order.

Send the format and the pair count per pack on the enquiry form, with a photo of the pack you want if you have one. The desk replies within one working day with the costing.
